1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. chopped apples

Mix ingredients. Bake in 8 x 8 inch pan, at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with vanilla sauce.

VANILLA SAUCE:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. cream or milk

Boil 8 to 10 minutes. Serve warm.
