STEAK PIZZAIOLA
2 lb. piece of boneless chuck steak about 3/4" thick
1 (35 oz.) can Italian style tomatoes
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. parsley
2 cloves garlic, finely diced
1 med. onion, sliced

Place steak in a roasting pan. Crush tomatoes and place them on the steak, adding remaining liquid to the pan. Place sliced onions on top of the tomatoes. Sprinkle the oregano, salt and parsley over the steak.

Bake, uncovered at 350 degrees for 2 hours or until meat is tender when pierced with a fork. (If sauce tends to become too thick while cooking, add a small amount of water to the mixture.)

For an extra touch, three or four peeled potatoes may be added to the roasting pan in the last hour of cooking.

An addition my Italian mother used to make to this classic recipe was some whole green beans layered across the top and then the dish covered with foil while it baked. With the potatoes, it was a wonderful complete meal. Yumm!

I made this tonight with the chuck steak. Added 2 more cloves of garlic and a little olive oil. Also cooked it for an extra 20 minutes. Yummy

I can remember my Mom making this and I wanted to try it but couldn't remember all the ingredients. After reading the recipe, it all came back to me. This was a quick and easy meal for my Mom to make, and with a large green salad and slices of crusty Italian bread to soak up the sauce, it was a complete and delicious meal.

This recipe brought back all of the great memories. I agree with using the extra garlic. And I added one more thing for extra texture. When all is nearly done. I cut fresh mozzerla and place it all on top. Let it melt...then bon appetito!

This is the more traditional recipe. I see some that are too fancy for the traditional ways. My grandparents would always use a cheap cut of meat like a Chuck steak etc.. and allow the cooking time to tenderize it. Big Italian family to feed. They would also add Peas and a good amount of garlic to the above recipe.

My Nana taught me this recipe. Along with the chuck roast she added her tomato sauce on top of the steak then she added her diced tomatoes. Last 20 minutes of cooking she smothered it with mozzarella cheese until it melted. OH GOODNESS!!! It is a family fav!
