FILLED COFFEE CAKE 
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, unbeaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. milk
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder

STREUSEL TOPPING:

1/4 c. flour
1/4 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon and nutmeg
2 tbsp. soft butter

Mix together and set aside. Will be crumbly. Beat together sugar, shortening, egg, vanilla. Add milk. Sift together dry ingredients and stir in. Spread half of batter in greased 8 x 9 x 2 pan. Sprinkle with half of Streusel topping. Repeat layers. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Freezes well.
