1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
1 egg

Mix together. Roll into a ball. Dip in sugar. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Press the center with a chocolate star. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
