SCALLOPED OYSTERS 
2 pt. oysters
6 slices stale bread
2 tubes saltines
1 stick butter
1/2 c. chicken broth
1/2 c. oyster liquid (add to chicken broth)
4-5 tbsp. cream

Roll stale bread into coarse crumbs. Roll saltines into coarse crumbs. Mix both kinds of crumbs with melted butter.

In an oven-proof dish, put a layer of crumbs on the bottom. Put oysters on top, "shoulder to shoulder" (very close together). Salt and pepper.

Pour 1/3 cup liquid over layer. Add another layer of crumbs, then oysters and salt and pepper. Cover with 1/3 cup liquid. Continue, ending with a layer of crumbs. Top with cream and bake for about 20 minutes in a 400-degree oven.
