My grandmother made this and it is a family favorite! Try apple cider vinegar instead of the white vinegar and you can skip the onion and add fresh dill.

This is the closest recipe to my grandma's cucumber salad that I have found yet! It is a little sweeter than I like, so I tweeked it a little after the first time I made it. I use white onions, sliced really thin, instead of the green onions, and cut the amount of sugar in half. Also, I don't drain the juice off. I just add the sour cream and vinegar to the bowl, juice and all. It is awesome! Thanks for posting!!

I have tried several different recipes for this salad, some are watery, some seem like they are missing something. This is a really good one that I will use from now on. I did modify a few things like using fat-free sour cream, and I also wish I'd noticed the other review. It's very sweet, but I used Splenda, next time I will cut that in half. I also added fresh Dill and a second Tbsp of vinegar. What really impressed me was soaking it for only 20mins. in the sugar and salt. It was just enough time to suck out all of the liquid. I know some people that soak over night. I had the leftovers the next day and it still wasn't soggy. This one is a keeper!

I don't usually bother to rate things but this was DELICIOUS! So yummy and spring like. It would be good in a tea sandwich too. I added some cauliflower chopped small and used Seasoned Rice Vinegar and added some Accent, aka MSG. I will sure save THIS recipe! Pepper would be good with it too. Lots of ways to be creative with it, but the basic recipe is amazing!

I made this and absolutely loved it! I used 1/2 the sugar and salt and used apple cider vinegar. This never got runny and the cucumbers stayed crisp the next day... I gave some to my neighbor and she raved about it! So happy to find this because it brings back so many memories.
