BURGER STUFFED ONIONS 
6 lg. onions
2 tbsp. oil
1 lb. ground beef
2 tbsp. chopped green pepper
2 tbsp. dry bread crumbs
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 tsp. pepper
3 slices American cheese
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce

Peel onions, cook in boiling, salted water about 30 minutes or until tender yet firm. Drain and cool.

Slice off top 1/3 of each onion and cut out centers to make cups. Chop 1/2 cup of the centers and saute in oil with beef and green pepper for 5 minutes. Mix in bread crumbs, chili powder, salt and pepper.

Fill onion cups with meat mixture. Place stuffed onions in a shallow dish. Top onions with cheese strips. Pour tomato sauce over all. Baste occasionally. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Serves 6.
