CHOCOLATE BIT COOKIES 
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. softened butter or shortening
3/4 c. granulated sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar (firmly packed)
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. water
2 eggs
2 c. chocolate bits (may use only 1 c. of chocolate bits)
1 c. nutmeats (optional)

Sift flour, soda and salt together and set aside. Combine butter or shortening, sugars, vanilla and water and beat until creamy; then add eggs and beat well. Add the flour mixture. Stir in chocolate bits and nuts. Drop by well-rounded half-teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
