WINTER PICKLES 
8 qt. sliced cucumbers
6 med. onion, sliced
2 med. green peppers, chopped
3 cloves garlic, peeled and left whole
1/3 c. salt
Cracked ice
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. tumeric
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
3 c. white vinegar

Do not pare cucumbers. Wash and slice thin. Put in large crock or canning pot. Add onions, green peppers and garlic. Pour salt over all and cover with cracked ice. Let stand 3 hours. Drain and remove any chips of ice. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over cucumbers. Heat just to boiling. Seal in hot, sterilized jars. Makes 8 quarts.
