ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
TOPPING:

Combine 1 cup orange juice and 2 cups powdered sugar. Set aside for cake.

CAKE:

3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 c. nuts
3 1/2 oz. can coconut
7 oz. dates, chopped
1 tsp. baking soda
1 lb. orange candy slices, cut into sm. pieces
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk

Mix flour and salt. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Add flour mixture with buttermilk. Stir in nuts, coconut, dates and candy pieces. Pour into 2 greased and floured 3x9 inch loaf pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 40-50 minutes. Bake only until done, do not overbake.

Remove from oven and cool in pan. Spoon topping over cake while hot. This cake is expensive to make but very good.
