GRANNY'S ORANGE SLICE CAKE | |
4 c. flour 1 lb. dates 1 lb. orange slices 1 lb. pecans 1 lb. butter 2 c. sugar 4 eggs 2 tbsp. orange rind 1 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt Measure your flour into a large bowl. Cut up your dates and orange slices, keeping them mixed with the flour so they won't stick; then mix in pecans. Blend other ingredients together, and pour over flour mixture; mix well. Pour into a well greased and floured bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or test with a toothpick. Have icing ready to put on cake as soon as you remove it from the pan. It will go in better if you poke holes in the hot cake with a toothpick. Keep spooning on the icing until all goes in. Cake keeps for several weeks. ICING: 1 c. orange juice 2 c. brown sugar |
