BELLE'S NO FAIL PIE CRUST | |
This is not a flaky pie crust, but it's great for beginners and easy to prepare. 3 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 one-quarter cup shortening 5 tablespoons ice water 1 tablespoon vinegar In a medium bowl, mix dry ingredients well. Cut shortening into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or a large fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a separate smaller bowl, mix egg, water and vinegar, beating slightly. Add liquid to dry mix and combine gently with fork. Do not overwork. Gather up 1/4 of the mixture into a ball and roll gently on a lightly floured work surface. Repeat for remainder of dough to make 4 balls; flatten into a disk between wax paper sheets if needed or roll out on silicone. Roll each ball out into a circle 1/8-inch thick. Makes two pies.
