AUNT HELEN'S FANCY CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
4 tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. salt

TOPPING:

4 egg whites
1 c. sugar
1 c. walnuts, chopped

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks. Mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture, gradually adding 4 tablespoons milk. Divide batter into 2 (9 inch) well greased cake pans.

TOPPING: Beat 4 egg whites. When starting to stiffen, add 1 cup granulated sugar. Put topping on top of batter, sprinkled with chopped walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.
