My mom used to make these and added Coke as an ingredient- any help? was this a replacement for some of the alcohol? I am not sure how much rum she used or how much Coke. And were there any choc chips either- or just the cocoa? It's been a loooooooog time- sorry.

Make it with Sailor Jerry's dark/spiced rum and chopped almonds... Will make all your great grands slip into a nostalgic coma for a special holliday event ;o) Also very good made with Ginger Snaps in place of Vanilla Wafers.

I make these every year. This recipe makes about 3 dozen. I have used dark chocolate powder, substituted bourbon for the rum, rolled them in finely chopped walnuts, almonds, cocoa powder/confectionary sugar, chocolate sprinkles, red or green sprinkles, colored sugars- you get the idea.

Mom also said you can use a whole shelled almond and wrap the rum ball stuff around it, form that into a ball and then roll in your favorite topping. I try to vary the coatings so I can tell which is what.

My mother used to make these little balls for Xmas! They make a GREAT present, and the key is to use a GOOD RUM.. the higher the proof, the better. Keep in the frig as it gives them an awesome taste.. Easy to make, you get quite a few balls out of it, not sure how many, 3 gifts worth???? and EVERYone will rave.

Hoping to make some of these for my son who is deployed well through Christmas. Will take 8 to 10 days to arrive. If sealed in Tupperware and prefrozen do you think they will travel and be safe to eat?
