GINGER BREAD COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. molasses
5 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses. Sift in flour, soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Stir until blended. Chill 2 hours. Roll out and cut. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. NOTE: To make tree ornaments, punch hole with straw before baking. The longer they stay on the tree the better they are. 3 dozen small gingerbread men.
