OLD FASHIONED DARK FRUIT CAKE 
1 lb. pecan meats
3/4 lb. black walnut meats
1/2 lb. citron
1/2 lb. cherries
1/2 lb. dates
1/2 lb. currants
1 lb. seeded muscat raisins
1/2 lb. pineapple
1/2 lb. butter
1/2 lb. margarine
1/2 lb. brown sugar
1/2 lb. flour, plain
5-6 eggs
3/4 c. whiskey
Cake spice

1. Cut and dice all fruit and nuts; mix with flour.

2. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating in as needed.

3. Add floured fruit and nut mixture alternately with whiskey. Add cake spice to taste.

4. Bake in very slow oven, 225°F for 2 hours and 15 minutes, then 300°F for 15 minutes.

My mother loved to make this for Christmas. She would make it months early, wrap in foil, store in a cookie tin and douse with bourbon periodically til it could absorb no more. She did use some molasses in the batter, but otherwise same recipe. A great memory.
