1/2 c. soft shortening 3/4 c. sugar 1 egg 1 1/3 c. sifted flour 1 tsp. cream of tartar 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/8 tsp. salt Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar and egg. Sift together and stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Roll into balls the size of walnuts. Roll into mixture of 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Bake 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet until lightly browned, but still soft. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. These cookies puff up at first, then flatten out. Yield: about 2 1/2 dozen 2 inch cookies. |
