SHORTBREAD 
1 lb. butter
3/4 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. xxxx sugar
1 egg
2 lb. flour

Cream butter and sugars together. Add egg and beat well until fluffy. Add flour gradually. Turn onto a board to work in the last of the flour.

Shape into a ball and divide into thirds. Place each third in a waxed paper-lined layer pan. Pat with hands to spread evenly. Prick all over with a fork.

Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool and remove from pans on a cloth. Cut into pieces.
