SHORTBREAD COOKIES 
1 c. butter
1/2 c. cornstarch
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. flour

In a large bowl cream butter. Sift together dry ingredients. Add a little at a time to butter (mixture will be stiff). Turn onto board and knead mixture until soft. Form into 1 inch balls and place on unbuttered cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork dipped in ice water. If desired decorate with a piece of maraschino cherry or other decoration before baking. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes.
