SWEET SOUR RED CABBAGE 
1 med. head cabbage, shredded, not too fine

Melt 3 tablespoons bacon drippings and add 1 large onion, chopped. Cook until golden brown.

Add:

1 1/2 tsp. flour or more
1/2 tsp. salt
Pepper to taste

Add hot water to make a medium white sauce, about 1/2 cup. Add 1/2 teaspoon monosodium glutamate. Add shredded cabbage and 1 large sour apple, cut in small pieces. Simmer until nearly done.

Then add:

2 tbsp. vinegar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Few cloves
1/4 c. brown sugar

Continue cooking until done. Correct seasonings if necessary for a sweet-sour taste.
