APPLESAUCE CAKE 
2 1/2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. water
1 1/2 c. canned applesauce
2 eggs
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1 c. raisins

Cream eggs and sugar. Add softened shortening and beat until creamy. Sift flour with soda, baking powder, salt, and spices; add to creamed mixture along with water and applesauce. (Add walnuts and raisins - optional.) Pour into 2 (8 inch) round cake pans or 1 oblong pan. Bake 35 to 45 minutes at 400 degrees.
