SHEPHERD'S PIE (POOR MAN'S DISH)
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. ground turkey
2 env. brown gravy
1 (15 oz.) can mixed vegetables, drained
1 small onion, chopped/diced
1 tsp. olive oil

MASHED POTATOES:

6 large white potatoes, peeled and diced
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
4 oz. dairy sour cream
4 oz. heavy whipping cream
salt and pepper, to taste

SEASONING FOR MEAT:

2 tsp. onion powder
2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. mustard
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. minced garlic

Preheat oven to 425°F.

Sauté chopped onion in olive oil in large skillet. Mix seasoning for meat, sautéed onions and meat together in a large mixing bowl. Brown meat in large skillet. Boil potatoes for mashed potatoes adding 1 teaspoon of salt to pot of water. Drain excess fat off of browned meat/onion mixture.

Prepare gravy mixed per packet directions in skillet. Add meat mixture. Add canned mixed vegetables - let simmer.

Prepare mashed potatoes using ingredients listed (I use whipping cream and sour cream to make them creamier).

Ladle gravy/vegetable/meat mixture into casserole dish. Top with mashed potato mixture.

Add shredded cheddar cheese to top of potatoes (optional).

Bake at 425°F for approximately 20 to 25 minutes or until cheese is melted and potatoes are browned.
