NATHAN'S "BROWN" CAKE OR
BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE
 
2 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk

Cream together sugar, shortening and butter until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each. Stir in extracts. Stir together flour and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture, alternating after each with buttermilk. Pour batter in greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/4 hours. Cool in pan for an hour.
