NANCY'S BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
1 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
3 c. plain flour
5 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, one at a time. Scald soda by putting it in a large spoon and adding hot water. Add to buttermilk. Add alternately with dry ingredients. Add vanilla last. Pour batter into greased and floured tube or bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
