SOUTHERN STYLE BREAD PUDDING | |
Day old or stale bread (about 12-14 slices) 1 c. raisins butter (at least 2 sticks) 2 c. sugar 5 beaten eggs 2 tbsp. vanilla 1 can Pet milk 1 c. water 1 c. milk Cinnamon (1 tsp. approx.) Nutmeg (1 tsp. approx.) Grease bottom of large casserole or large cake pan (10x14). Put a layer of buttered bread, buttered side up. Sprinkle raisins over this layer. Using shake side of spice can, sprinkle over this some cinnamon and nutmeg. Put another layer of buttered bread over the bottom layer of bread and raisins and sprinkle some more cinnamon and nutmeg over the top. Beat the sugar, eggs, vanilla and milk mixtures together. Pour this over the layered bread until it is covered. You need a deep enough dish or pan to be sure it will hold the liquid. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes, then with a wooden spoon push liquid up over bread. Continue baking about 45-50 minutes. Keep moist by adding liquid if necessary. |
