COTTAGE PUDDING 
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. melted butter

SAUCE:

1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. boiling water
2 tbsp. butter
Pinch of nutmeg
1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
Sweetened whipped cream

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in mixing bowl. Combine egg, milk, and butter; stir to blend. Pour egg mixture into dry ingredients HAND stirring until smooth. Pour batter into well greased 8 inch square pan. Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 20 minutes or until done (cake tester comes out smooth). Cut into 4-5 inch squares.

SAUCE: Combine sugar and cornstarch in saucepan and gradually stir in boiling water. Cook over medium heat stirring and add lemon juice, butter, nutmeg and stir constantly for 5 minutes until smooth. Serve cake and serve warm topped with whipped cream.
