DANISH APPLE BARS | |
2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 c. shortening 1 egg yolk plus enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid 1 c. Corn Flakes, crushed 4 lg. cooking apples 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 egg white Cut shortening into flour and salt with pastry blender. Combine egg yolk, slightly beaten with enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid. Add to flour mixture and toss lightly until dry ingredients are moistened. Divide dough in half. Roll out half into a rectangle, place on a 12 x 17 inch pan, bringing pastry up sides. Sprinkle Corn Flakes over pastry, arrange apples evenly over the Corn Flakes. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over apples and cover with other half of rolled out pastry. Brush top with 1 beaten egg white. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes. Ice while warm with 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 1 teaspoon water. |
