“YUM YUM CAKE” IS IN:
NEXT RECIPE:  BAKED PORK CHOPS

YUM YUM CAKE 
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 lb. raisins
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
3 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder

Put sugar, water, raisins, shortening, cinnamon and cloves in a saucepan; boil 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Mix and sift flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder together; add to the first mixture. Mix well. Pour into greased tube pan.

Bake in a slow oven, 300°F for 1 1/2 hours.

I can't rate this until I try it but I think it is the closest one to my grandmothers. I will substitute black coffee for the water. She never used water--always coffee. I have her recipe but it is so, old parts of it can barely be seen. Looks to me that this one is it. (except for the coffee) I sure hope so.

Olddancer, I have an almost similar recipe from my husband's family. It is baked in 2 loaf pans at 350°F for 45 minutes. Once cool, wrap in plastic wrap and let mellow overnight.

I have such warm memories of my grandmother's Yum Yum cake. She made it all through the fall and winter months. BROWN SUGAR is the difference compared to this recipe and slow oven at 1 1/2 hours. My best guide for her temp setting is about over 300 under 325...
