2 cups sugar 2 cups water 1 lb. raisins 2 tbsp. shortening 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. cloves 3 cups flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder Put sugar, water, raisins, shortening, cinnamon and cloves in a saucepan; boil 5 minutes. Set aside to cool. Mix and sift flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder together; add to the first mixture. Mix well. Pour into greased tube pan. Bake in a slow oven, 300°F for 1 1/2 hours.
