CHINESE PEPPER STEAK | |
1 lb. sirloin, cut 1/4 inch thick 2 tbsp. shortening 1/4 c. chopped onion 1 clove garlic 1 lb. can tomatoes 1 lg. green pepper, cut into strips 1/4 c. cold water 2 tbsp. cornstarch 2 tbsp. soy sauce 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 2 beef bouillon cubes 1 c. hot water Cut beef into strips and brown in hot shortening about 15 minutes. Add onions and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes longer. Dissolve bouillon in hot water. Add the meat. Cover and let simmer until meat is done. Add tomatoes and green pepper. Cook 10 minutes longer. Combine cornstarch with the cold water. Add cornstarch and soy sauce to the meat mixture and bring to a boil, stirring constantly until sauce is thick and clear. Remove garlic. Serve over buttered noodles. |
