GERMAN RYE BREAD 
1 oz. yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1/2 tsp. sugar
2 c. warm water
1/4 c. molasses
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. shortening
2 tsp. salt
2 c. rye flour
1 tbsp. caraway seed
4 c. white flour

Mix yeast, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon sugar together and set aside until it bubbles up. Meanwhile, mix other ingredients except white flour, add yeast mixture. Add white flour, knead until smooth and beat well. Place in greased bread pan, let rise. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour. Makes 2 loaves.
