CANDY CANE COOKIES 
1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla flavoring or peppermint
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. red food coloring

Preheat oven to 375°F. Mix shortening, butter, powdered sugar, egg and flavoring. Add flour and mix. Divide dough in half and add red food coloring to half of dough.

Roll a 4-inch strip using 1 teaspoon dough from each color. Twist together and shape like a candy cane. Sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes on ungreased baking sheet.
