MOLASSES CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. molasses
1 c. hot water
Raisins (if desired)

Combine shortening, sugar and egg. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with mixture of molasses and hot water. Add raisins last. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes.
