OLD FASHIONED MOLASSES DROP

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. molasses
1/2 c. sour milk
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped raisins (optional)

About 42 (2") cookies. These are highly speed. Sift 1/2 cup sugar. Beat until soft 1/2 cup shortening. Add the sugar gradually. Blend these ingredients until they are very light and creamy. Beat in 1 egg and 1/2 cup molasses. Measure 1/2 cup of sour milk. Sift before measuring 2 1/2 cups of flour. Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon ginger, 1/2 teaspoon cloves, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon baking soda.
