MOLASSES CAKE | |
1/2 c. sugar 1 egg 2/3 c. dark molasses 2/3 c. sour milk 2 c. flour 1 tbsp. shortening 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 c. seeded raisins Mix egg, sugar, shortening and molasses. Mix and add other ingredients. Dust raisins in flour. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes depending on pan size. (Not a large cake.) This is the written recipe that I have, but I believe mother made some changes. Her cake was much darker and heavier (also larger), so she evidently used more molasses. This seems to be one of those secrets cooks take with them to the Great Kitchen up there. Mother always used "sticky" seeded raisins. |
