SWEDISH GINGER SNAPS 
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1 egg
4 tbsp. molasses
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg and molasses. Beat well. Sift together all dry ingredients. Gradually add dry ingredients to the creamed sugar mixture. Form balls of dough by rolling small amounts of the batter in your hands. Dip half of ball quickly in water and then into granulated sugar. Bake approximately 8 to 9 minutes. Cookies will be very crisp and the sugar on the top will be cracked when the cookies have cooled.
