HOMEMADE VINEGAR BBQ SAUCE | |
3 large onions, chopped 1 tbsp. butter or olive oil 1 qt. (4 cups) ketchup 2/3 cup concentrated lemon juice 1/2 cup vinegar 5 oz. Worcestershire sauce (about 1/2 bottle) 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. cayenne 2 tbsp. prepared mustard 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed In skillet, sauté onion in oil or butter until tender. Remove and place in a 4 quart saucepan. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour on low-medium heat, stir often. DO NOT ALLOW TO STICK OR BURN. FOR MEATS: cook meat, let cool. Pull into bite size pieces then put into sauce and simmer on low for 1 hour. GREAT SANDWICHES: top with homemade slaw for extra crunch... Submitted by: Phyllis Chittum |
