FIG AND WALNUT COOKIES | |
3/4 cup shortening 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar 1 egg 1/4 cup milk 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. ground clove 1 cup figs, cut fine 1 cup chopped walnuts Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and cream until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Stir in milk. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and clove together and stir in figs and nuts. Mix well. Form into rolls and wrap in waxed paper. Chill dough thoroughly in refrigerator. Slice 1/8-inch thick. Bake on greased baking sheet in hot oven (400°F) for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes 6 dozen cookies. |
