SCANDINAVIAN CABBAGE 
1 (2 to 3 lbs.) head cabbage (red or green), cored and shredded
Up to 1/4 c. oil
2 med. onions, chopped
4 med. apples, peeled and sliced
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. pepper
Salt as desired

Saute cabbage in oil over medium heat about 5 minutes. Add onions, apples, and seasonings; toss together over heat for a few minutes. Add: 1/4 c. water 2 tbsp. sugar 1 1/2 c. dry red wine

Cook over low heat on top of stove, about 1 hour. Add more wine or some water, if needed. May be served immediately but is just as good or better reheated.
