CHOP SUEY | |
2 lb. beef, pork or veal (cut in 1/2" cubes) 1 c. sliced celery 1 c. sliced onions 1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms, undrained 1/4 c. soy sauce 3 tbsp. cornstarch 1 (1 lb.) can bean sprouts, drained Brown meat in shortening. Add enough water to cover; simmer until meat is tender (20-30 minutes). Season to taste (you may leave out salt if you wish because soy sauce is very salty). Add celery and onions, continue cooking until they are tender. (You may have to add more water.) Add undrained mushrooms, mix soy sauce and cornstarch, stir into mixture. Cook and stir until bubbly and thick. Drain sprouts. Add to mixture. Serve over rice. Serves 12-15. |
