OLDE TIME BUTTERMILK BISCUITS
2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
5 tbsp. butter-flavor shortening
1 c. buttermilk

Combine flour and soda, then cut in shortening. Add buttermilk all at once. Stir with a fork until dough makes a ball (additional flour may need to be added before handling). Turn out on floured board and knead 5 or 6 times.

Roll dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Brush with melted butter; fold over and cut about a 2-inch biscuit. Brush tops of biscuits with melted butter. Bake on a very lightly greased cookie sheet.

If you like your biscuits brown all around, don't let them touch. If you prefer fatter biscuits, put them close together. Bake in preheated 450 degree oven for 12-15 minutes. Yield 1 dozen.
