BUTTERMILK BISCUITS | |
2 c. flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tbsp. sugar 1/3 c. firm butter, cut into chunks 1 c. buttermilk Combine first 5 ingredients in pastry blender. Mix in butter. When evenly blended, add 1 cup buttermilk and mix with fork. Turn dough onto floured waxed paper, turning to coat. Knead gently for 10 turns. Pat or roll dough; cut with biscuit cutter. Makes approximately 10 biscuits. Put close together on greased baking sheet; dot with butter on tops and bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. (Don't let bottoms get too dark.) Serve warm. Delicious toasted or reheated with butter or honey. |
