OLD STYLE BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk

Heat oven to 475 degrees. Sift together: flour, baking powder, salt, soda. Cut in shortening to look like coarse cornmeal. Stir in buttermilk with fork until soft dough forms. Knead and roll out on floured surface. Cut to desired thickness, bake 10 minutes. Yields 12 biscuits.
