OLD STYLE BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. shortening
2/3 c. buttermilk

Preheat oven to 475 degrees.

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and soda. Cut in shortening until mixture looks like coarse cornmeal. Stir in buttermilk with a fork until soft dough is formed. Knead and roll out on lightly floured board or pastry cloth. Cut to desired size. Bake about 10 minutes.
