1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. each nutmeg, cinnamon and soda
3 c. chopped apples
1/2 c. nuts

Mix all together. Stir in apples and nuts. Bake 350 degrees, 25 minutes. Remove. Pour on topping and bake additional 25 minutes.

TOPPING:

1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. milk
3 tbsp. butter

Melt together in saucepan.
