SWEET ICICLE PICKLES 
2 gal. sliced cucumbers
8 pints sugar
1 pint salt
4 tbsp. pickling spices
2 tbsp. alum
2 tbsp. celery seed
2 1/2 quarts vinegar
2 gallons water

Bring water to boiling point and add salt. Let dissolve. Place sliced cucumbers in stone jar and pour water solution over cucumbers and let set 1 week. Pour off water solution and rinse. Add fresh boiling water to cover. Let set 24 hours, drain and cover with boiling water with 2 tablespoons alum dissolved in it. Let set 24 hours. Drain and rinse well. Bring to boil vinegar, sugar, celery seed and pickling spices. Pour over cucumbers. Let set 24 hours. Drain in large pan and heat solution. Repeat for 4 days. Pack in jars the fourth day, pour over cucumbers and seal.
