ICICLE CUCUMBER PICKLES | |
2 gal. cucumbers, sliced lengthwise 1 gal. boiling water 1 pt. salt 2 heaping tbsp. alum SYRUP: 5 lbs. sugar 2 qts. vinegar 1 box pickling spice, tied in cheesecloth Put the salt over cucumbers in 1 gallon of boiling water. Let stand 1 week. Stir every day. Drain. Add 1 gallon boiling water; let stand 24 hours. Drain. Add 1 gallon of boiling water and alum. Let stand 24 hours. Drain. Make syrup. Heat syrup, and pour over cucumbers for 4 mornings. On the 5th morning, heat syrup and can. |
