For every gallon of sliced cucumbers: 1 gallon of water mixed with 2 cups slack lime. Soak in lime water overnight. In morning wash in 3 or 4 cold waters. Soak in water 2 hours. Mix until sugar is completely dissolved: 4 c. vinegar 8 c. sugar 1 tbsp. salt Add cucumbers, 2 tablespoons of pickling spices and 1 tablespoon of celery seed (spices may be placed into spice bag instead of left loose). Soak about 6 hours. Cook about 1 hour or until clear. Pack into hot, clean jars and seal. |
