ICICLE PICKLE 
2 gal. cucumbers, sliced
1 pt. salt
1 gal. water (boiling)
2 tbsp. alum
8 pt. sugar (16 c.)
2 qts. vinegar
1 box pickling spice

Soak 1 week in salt water, stir daily. Drain. Cover with 1 gallon boiling water, 2 tablespoons alum. Let stand for 24 hours. Drain. Make syrup. Mix vinegar, sugar, spice, heat and pour over cucumbers 4 days. Fourth day: Pack pickles in jar. Pour heated syrup in jar, seal while hot.
