My first husband was a Marine Corp cook, and he would make this. After he passed, I tried but never got it quite right. I didn't know about the soy sauce. Now it's right although I do add a little Tabasco to give it some pop or cheddar if I'm low on hamburger.

Had USMC SOS for the first time in boot camp in 1962. AT the time, I didn't enjoy, must of been pleasant surrounding? Learn to love it.

Been a Marine since 1970. I couldn't fully appreciate SOS as a 'boot' because I only had about 10 minutes to suck down chow. Today, I appreciate those Marine cooks and their culinary skills. I prep this frequently and discovered that my elk-hunting comrades devour SOS: over toasted English muffins and chopped hard-boiled eggs. Thanks much for this recipe and Semper Fi, Brother!
