My father was a Marine. But he made it with chip beef. I have always loved it. Never tried with hamburger meat. I buy the budding beef in a package.. slice in strips.. saute with butter and onions. Add flour and milk. Boom your done. He was a marine so I thought everyone made it that way.. lol..Not to healthy. But its fast and oh so good.

My mom always made it with dried beef and would put hard boiled eggs in and serve it over biscuits. To die for!! I always thought that was SOS.

I first had this dish at MCRD, San Diego in 1968 as a member of Platoon 1065 (and I've lost count of how many meals since). If it ever came to survival (LOL), I could eat an old, worn-out combat boot if this stuff was poured all over it!

My dad was a Marine, he made this all the time. He didn't use Worcestershire sauce. He'd serve it over toasted bread, with a fried egg on top. He also fried small diced potatoes to serve on the side. This is my favorite meal. YUM YUM :)

This sounds good, and its whats for dinner tonight! Husbands a Marine retired, his SOS is made as a rue with chipped beef. I make that a lot, but it can be pricey. This is a change-up, thanks for the idea!

This is what they're talking about when they're talking about good Marine Corps chow. (When they're not being sarcastic.) Thanks for the reminder -- we might cook up a chow hall breakfast this weekend.

Add this to the "omelet" of powdered eggs with gratted cheese on top just before it cooked all the way thru and I had a meal in the Marine's. Cook 1940's-1950's powdered eggs in tap water till just the top is still slimy and add cheese; when cheese starts to melt a Little Bit; flip one side over the over and cut in serving sizes; dish it up ! Add lots of Tabasco Sauce to swallow this portion of breakfast, lol. (Best served hot on the 'omelet' as it is a not treat cold. USMC 1964-1968 active. Semper Fi brothers/sisters.

My Dad was a career Marine. The story goes that when my parents married, my Dad asked my mom to make it and she ended up calling someone on the base. In any case it is one of our (us kids) favorite meals and of course always brings to mind such wonderful memories. I didn't know the the recipe and both parents have past. Thank you for posting this authentic version - have made it numerous times.
